Cassie Kearney has been selected as a College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-American. Kearney, a member of both the women's cross country and track and field teams, earned a spot on the second team. The award recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in their sport and in the classroom.
Kearney recently graduated from Middlebury with a 3.83 grade point average and earned her degree in psychology.
Kearney is a two-time CoSIDA All-District honoree and had a phenomenal senior season as a Panther. In cross country, she earned All-American praise for the third time in her career, placing a career-best seventh place at the NCAA Championships. During the race, she recorded a personal-record time of 21:02.1 in the 6K event. She finished in second place at the NCAA Mideast Regional to earn all-region honors and was the NESCAC runner-up at the championship event.
During the indoor season, Kearney ran the 1,600-meter leg of the distance medley relay, helping propel the squad to a fourth-place finish at the NCAA Championships to earn All-American laurels. In the spring, Kearney was crowned the NESCAC Champion in the 800m, the 1,500m and was part of the triumphant 4x800m relay. Kearney helped lead Middlebury to the program's third NESCAC title in April and the first since 2000.
Kearney earned All-American honors outdoors in both the 800m and the 1,500m at the NCAA Championships. She was the national runner-up in the longer of the two events, clocking in at 4:28.05. Kearney followed up that performance with a third-place finish in the 800m, just over an hour later, finishing with a personal-best time of 2:07.92. She concluded her career with six All-American honors.
