Sarah Martin, a member of the Class of 1995, was a three-sport standout/captain who earned All-American honors in field hockey and lacrosse.
Martin was a driving force behind the emergence of Middlebury women’s lacrosse on the national scene. Her teams earned a combined record of 48-11, advancing to the NCAA semifinals the first two years the program was allowed to participate (1994 and 1995). She was a part of an ECAC Championship during her first season and earned All-American honors as a senior midfielder, earning 46 career points.
In field hockey, Martin was a top scorer each season (.63 points/game), earning All-American honors in 1994. She was part of an ECAC Championship team in 1993 and helped the Panthers to their first NCAA appearance (semifinals) in 1994.
On the hardwood, she was a major contributor, with her teams earning a 73-21 mark. The Panthers won the ECAC title during her first season and made their first NCAA Tournament appearance when she was a senior.
She was the winner of the College’s A. Bayard Russ ’66 Memorial Athletic Award, given to the school’s best two-sport athlete. After graduation, she joined the coaching staff in all three sports she played, working with several championship teams.
