george Heidi George, a member of the Class of 1998, was a dominant distance swimmer for Middlebury in the 1990s. She was a three-time NCAA Champion in the 1,650 freestyle event, earning All-American honors on each of those occasions. George is the only Middlebury swimmer ever to win three-consecutive national titles in the same event.

Her most impressive race came in the 1996 NCAA Championship event, at which she won the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 16:40.16. That time set a Division III national record that stood for 14 years. George is also the school record-holder in the 1,000 freestyle, touching the wall with a time of 10:05.65.

George helped bring national recognition to the Middlebury swimming program with her NCAA prowess.
