Les Streeter, a member of the Class of 1955, is known to be one of the top all-around skiers in United States history.

Streeter competed in all four skiing disciplines (slalom, giant slalom, Nordic, and ski jumping) during his Panther career. He was crowned the 1955 NCAA “Skimeister,” becoming the first individual national champion in Middlebury’s athletic history.

At carnivals utilizing the four-event format, Streeter missed earning the skimeister accolade only once in four years, garnering the individual title eight times, including at the 1954 Middlebury Carnival and the Eastern Championships. He served as a team captain in each of his last two seasons, helping guide the Panthers to their initial NCAA Championship appearance. Middlebury finished in third place at the national event contested in his hometown of Northfield, Vermont.

Following his career at Middlebury, Streeter competed in an international event at Stowe where he finished in 14th place in the alpine combined disciplines. He was also named to the 1956 Winter Olympic team in Cortina, Italy, but was unable to compete after sustaining an injury during a training run.

Streeter founded a number of ski shops and clubs throughout the United States and Canada before passing away in a plane crash in 1986 at the age of 52.
