Marika Ross, a member of the Class of 2008, was a dominant and versatile swimmer who excelled in the butterfly events for Middlebury.

She was a three-time NCAA Champion in the 200-yard butterfly (2005, 2007, 2008), earning All-American honors during each of her four years in the event. Ross is one of four swimmers in NCAA Division III history to win the 200 butterfly more than once. She was also crowned the national champion in the 100 butterfly in 2007.

Ross was a 10-time individual NESCAC Champion and swam a leg on the winning 200 freestyle relay teams during the 2007 and 2008 conference championships. She was awarded the 2008 NESCAC Four-Year High-Point Swimmer Award, the only Panther woman to earn the accolade in program history.

Ross is the school record holder in the 100 and 200 butterfly events, both established during the 2006–07 season. She touched the wall with a record time of 55.59 to win the 2007 NCAA crown in the 100, while her 200 clocking was 2:01.25. Ross also possesses the record in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:04.98 and the 500 freestyle with a clocking of 4:58.87, which was eclipsed in 2016.
