John Giannacopoulos, a member of the Class of 2000, was a standout in both ice hockey and soccer.

On the ice, Giannacopoulos was a member of three NCAA Championships and helped win the inaugural NESCAC Tournament title in 2000. He earned All-American accolades twice as Middlebury went 87-15-8 mark over his career. Giannacopoulos placed his name among the program’s records, tying for the most points in a game (six) as a senior. At the time of his induction, he is one of just two players with more than 100 assists (second with 103). The forward’s 163 points rank fourth in the century-long program’s history. As a senior, he finished with 50 points (20G, 30A), ranking in the top-20 spots nationally in shorthanded goals (tied for second with four), game-winning goals (11th with four), points per game (14th with 1.79) and assists per game (15th with 1.07).

On the field, Giannacopoulos was a two-time All-American designee and the 1999 NESCAC Player of the Year, helping the team claim the 1999 ECAC Championship. The Panthers went 48-11-4 record during his four seasons, making the NCAA Tournament three times. Giannacopoulos is tied for second in single-season points (34) and third in single-game points (six), while owning the third-most goals (14) in a season in program history. The midfielder sits fourth all time in career points (74) and goals (31).

Giannacopoulos is one of eight players to earn at least two All-American honors in ice hockey since 1953 and is one of five to garner a pair of national awards in men’s soccer.
