Box Score Middlebury scored three first-half goals on its way to a 4-0 win over Wesleyan (2-10, 0-7) in a NESCAC contest played on Kohn Field. The fourth-ranked Panthers (9-3, 5-3) return to action Wednesday night at Rensselaer, while the Cardinals host Trinity the same day.
Middlebury got on the board 4:37 into the contest with the fourth of the year from Molly Freeman. Lauren Schweppe sent the ball toward the goal, where Freeman gathered it and finished for the 1-0 advantage.
Middlebury's Julia Richards scored her first career goal at 8:12, less than a minute after coming off the bench. Finding herself with some space on the left side, Richards ripped a reverse chip shot into the top-right corner of the net from 10 yards out.
Marissa Baker made it a 3-0 contest with 4:25 remaining in the first half, converting a nice pass from Kelly Coyle for her second of the season.
Middlebury nearly added to its lead with 1:30 remaining, but a great defensive save by Wesleyan's Lily Ardente on a shot from Annie Leonard kept it a 3-0 game at the break.
The Panthers scored the only goal of the second half just 2:10 into the session. Freeman netted her second of the game and fifth of the season, converting a nice cross-crease pass from Emma Johns.
Middlebury finished the game with a 20-1 shots advantage, holding a 16-1 lead in penalty corners. Emily Miller was forced to make just one save for her third shutout of the season, while Claire Edelman made 11 stops for the Cardinals.
