Noah den Hartog Announced as Assistant Field Hockey Coach

Noah den Hartog joins the Middlebury field hockey coaching staff for the 2026 season.
Noah den Hartog has been hired as an assistant coach with the Middlebury field hockey program. He spent the fall as an assistant at Dartmouth College after holding a similar role at the University of Lynchburg for five years.

"We are thrilled to welcome Noah den Hartog to the Middlebury Field Hockey family," said Borgen Family Head Coach of Field Hockey Katharine DeLorenzo. "Noah brings an exceptional blend of experience to our staff, shaped by the rich history and technical rigor of Dutch field hockey and sharpened across both the Division I and Division III levels here in the United States. His understanding of the game, combined with his dedication to developing players, makes him an outstanding addition to our staff."

"I want to thank Coach DeLorenzo and the Middlebury athletic department for inviting me to join this prestigious program," Den Hartog said. "I look forward to enhancing the student-athlete experience on a day-to-day basis and helping maintain the championship standard of Middlebury Field Hockey."

During his stint with the Big Green, den Hartog developed group and individual practice plans, working closely with the goalkeepers in small-group and individual sessions. He also helped coordinate travel logistics and assisted with recruiting.

As a member of the Lynchburg staff, den Hartog implemented practice plans, travel arrangements and recruiting strategies while conducting tactical and technical sessions. He also helped mentor student-athletes in academic and athletic success. During his time with the Hornets, the program won the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) title twice and advanced to two national quarterfinals.

Since 2021, den Hartog has been a coach in the USA Field Hockey Nexus program, connecting players with experienced coaches to master the skills and tactics crucial for long-term development and success. He served as the under-14 Nexus national championship coach in four of the last five cycles. In 2023, den Hartog was involved with the under-21 and senior Nexus weekend.

Alongside his roles with the Hornets and Nexus, den Hartog was the tournament and site director for the Focus Field Hockey Club's site in Richmond, Virginia from 2020 to 2024. He orchestrated practices for athletes ages 10-19 and served as the recruitment coordinator for students in the program pursuing collegiate athletics.

Den Hartog graduated from Appalachian State University with a bachelor's degree in Exercise Science with a focus on Strength and Conditioning and a minor in Sports Coaching in 2020. He earned his master's degree in Counseling at Lynchburg in 2023, researching mental health barriers among injured student-athletes.
