Middlebury College

The #5 Middlebury field hockey team scored twice in the opening 30 minutes en route to a 2-0 victory over Connecticut College on Peter Kohn Field.
 
HIGHLIGHTS

• The Panthers struck early, finding the back of the cage 55 seconds into the first stanza. Claire McMichael pounced on a loose ball and sent a stick-to-stick pass to Emma McCann. The Panther collected the cross and fired a shot that snuck past Camel goal Isabella Carnall for a 1-0 lead.
• Middlebury had another quality chance nearly five minutes later, but a knuckling shot by McMichael from the right side was turned away on a nifty defensive save by Maddie Mason. 
• Scoring chances were hard to come by early in the second quarter until a bid from the right side by Addie Chandler with 8:37 elapsed was saved off Carnall's pads.
• The hosts increased their advantage with 5:09 left before halftime. Following a penalty corner, Megan Fuqua slipped a pass to McCann on the left post, who tipped the ball over the line for a 2-0 lead.
• Middlebury nearly took a three-goal advantage just before the intermission, but a chance off the stick of Anna Powell clanged off the right post and caromed away.
• The Panthers continued to apply pressure in the offensive end during the third frame, earning nine penalty corners. Chandler roped a shot five minutes into the stanza that Mason denied with her second defensive save on the post.
• Connecticut College looked to cut into the deficit with 5:21 on the clock. Eloise Montagano found space on the left, lacing a shot that whistled just wide of the left post. 
• McMichael raced down the left side moments later and attempted to propel a bid. Carnall charged off her line and stopped the chance with her pad.
• Early in the fourth, Hadley Crowther looked to add to the Panther advantage. She muscled her way inside the circle, ripping a chance that Carnall denied.
• In the waning minutes, Carnall posted a pair of saves on chances in quick succession by McMichael and Crowther for the final 2-0 score.  

NOTES

• McCann's two goals match her career best output, while McMichael's helper was her 15th in a Middlebury uniform. 
• Goalies Izzy Redzic and Madeline DiLemme each saw 30 minutes of action in front of the Panther net.
• The sides played for the 27th time with the Panthers holding a 25-2 advantage in the all-time series. Middlebury has outscored the Camels 56-10 over the last 11 meetings since 2015, including five shutouts.

The Panthers close out their home weekend on Sunday when they compete with #6 Babson at 12:00 p.m.
