The #5 Middlebury field hockey team dropped a 1-0 decision against #6 Babson on Sunday afternoon at Peter Kohn Field.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Panther goalkeeper Izzy Redzic stood tall with four first-quarter saves to keep the contest scoreless. The first opportunity came with 5:06 elapsed, when Penny Baroni smacked a high bid that the senior batted away with a glove.
• Just over two minutes later, Baroni fired a sizzler toward the left post on a penalty corner. Redzic reacted quickly and booted the ball away with her right foot.
• With 7:19 remaining, Ashley Braren dropped her stick to redirect a feed into the air, but the Panther goalie turned the bid away with her blocker.
• The Beavers moved in front early in the second stanza. Molly DiGiulio delivered a cross-circle pass to Helen DiGiovanni for a backhanded bid that sailed into the netting for a 1-0 advantage.
• The session's final attempt came from Baroni via a quick shot that sailed wide of the right post with three minutes remaining.
• Middlebury earned consecutive penalty corners in the final two minutes of the third frame. On the second opportunity, Fuqua blasted a bid from the top of the circle that bounced outside of the left post.
• Fuqua nearly leveled the bout with 55:11 gone, dialing up a blistering attempt during a penalty corner. Babson netminder Madison Tibbals booted the chance away.
• The navy and white lifted goalie Madeline DiLemme in favor of an additional field player in the final minutes, but could not erase the zero as the visitors held strong for the 1-0 win.

NOTES

• Redzic turned away four shots in the contest.
• The Panthers and Beavers squared off for the 14th time.

Middlebury returns to action on Saturday with a road battle against #16 Amherst at 11:00 a.m.
