Middlebury College

The eighth-ranked Middlebury field hockey team netted a trio of second-half markers to stamp a 3-0 victory against #17 Amherst on Saturday afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Addie Chandler struck the lone shot of the first session with 1:11 elapsed, which bounced wide of the right post.
• With 9:57 to go in the second quarter, Hadley Crowther stepped to a crisp pass from Chandler and swept an attempt that aired outside the left woodwork.
• Emma McNealy nearly pushed the guests in front with 8:12 expired in the session, dialing up a look destined for the left side of the cage.  Mammoth goalkeeper Grace Puchalski dove to turn away with her stick and keep the game scoreless heading  into halftime.
• The navy and white needed just 1:39 of the third-quarter clock to jump in front. Lily Stockwell settled an insert from Emma McCann and found Chandler on the left post, who thumped the back panel for a 1-0 advantage.
• Claire McMichael and Ally Kennedy tallied quality looks just 12 seconds apart, but Puchalski stood tall and turned away both opportunities to maintain the score.
• Chandler struck again with 9:20 remaining in the stanza. McCann brought the ball into the circle and sent a sharp delivery toward the left post.  Chandler collected the ball and buried a back-handed bid to double the lead (2-0).
• Middlebury preserved the two-goal advantage through to the final minutes, forcing the Mammoths to lift Puchalski in favor of an additional field player. The Panthers capitalized on the change with 57:39 expired when Chandler inserted to Megan Fuqua for a blast down the middle of the goal, finalizing the 3-0 triumph.

NOTES

• Chandler logged a career-high five points with two goals and one assist.
• The victory was the Panthers' 37th in the series against Amherst. 
• Middlebury has won the last 19 meetings dating back to the 2011 NESCAC semifinals.

The navy and white return to Peter Kohn Field for a Sunday meeting with #13 Hamilton at 12:00 p.m.
