Middlebury College

The seventh-ranked Middlebury field hockey team scored five goals in Saturday's third quarter, turning a two-goal halftime advantage into an 8-0 triumph from Peter Kohn Field.
 
HIGHLIGHTS

• The Garnet Chargers looked to get on the scoreboard 1:29 into the opening stanza. Lily Durivage blasted a chance from the top of the circle that Panther goalie Izzy Redzic stopped with her pad. Seconds later, Maddie Greco collected the ball and tried to find the back of the cage, but Redzic made a sprawling save with her stick.
• Claire McMichael nearly gave the navy and white the lead a minute later on a blast from the left side that whistled wide of the near post.
• The Panthers swayed the momentum in their favor over the remainder of the frame. Hadley Crowther positioned herself on the left post with 10:10 elapsed, but Union goalie Tess Parker thwarted her bid to keep the contest scoreless after 15 minutes.
• Middlebury broke through with 1:22 gone in the second quarter following a penalty corner. Emma McCann inserted the opportunity to Tessa Herbst, who settled it for Anna Powell. The rookie fired her first collegiate goal inside the left post.
• Megan Fuqua increased the advantage six minutes later, tucking her penalty stroke into the left portion of the cage for a 2-0 lead.
• The Panthers produced quality bids over the remainder of the stanza. The best came with 3:43 showing on the clock when Emma McNealy flipped a shot from the left side that Parker tipped away with her blocker.
• Shortly after the halftime break, Middlebury pushed its advantage to 3-0. Crowther laced a shot that found space on the right post on a nifty pass by McCann with 1:02 expired in the third stanza.
• A minute later, Fuqua found the back of the cage on a crisp reverse sweep for a 4-0 lead.
• The Panthers netted a trio of tallies over a span of 6:40 later in the stanza. McCann assisted on the first two, inserting a penalty corner that Ally Kennedy finished into the left side at the midway point of the stanza, before connecting with Fuqua 3:47 later to make it a 6-0 contest. Emma McNealy capped the surge, collecting a loose ball on the left post with 50 seconds remaining.
• The hosts concluded the scoring 1:13 into the fourth quarter. Sarah Kriebel roped a reverse sweep that found daylight into the left side for her first goal as a Panther and an 8-0 advantage.
• The Garnet Chargers nearly broke up the shutout with 4:17 left. Amy Vytopilova tapped a shot that was headed toward the right post, but Middlebury goalie Madeline DiLemme sprawled out and denied the chance with her stick for the final 8-0 triumph.

NOTES

• McCann collected a career-high four assists. Her performance ties the single-game record set by Catherine Fowler '12 on October 9, 2012.
• Fuqua secured her third career hat trick in the navy and white.
• Redzic picked up the win in front of the goal, saving the three shots she faced during the first half. DiLemme posted a pair of stops in 29:13 of action, while Sara Campbell logged her first collegiate action. 
• The programs met for the 24th time and the first installment since 2010. The Panthers own a 19-3-2 advantage and have won 12 in a row against the Garnet Chargers.

The Panthers are idle for a week before opening their NESCAC slate at home against Connecticut College on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
