Just one day after defeating #15 Williams, #11 Middlebury knocked off the number one team in the nation, as they defeated Ursinus 2-1 on Kohn Field. The Panthers return to action at Amherst on Wednesday.
Middlebury took a 1-0 lead late in the first half as Allison Smith redirected a ball down low. The Panthers doubled their lead early in the second half when Channing Weymouth scored after a scramble in front. Ursinus battled back to cut the lead in half with 21:53 remaining, as Karen Wendler scored with an assist from Ashley Effinger after a penalty corner. Both teams would have chances to scored down the stretch, but neither could find the back of the cage, leaving Middlebury with a 2-1 win.
The Panthers held a 35-16 shots advantage in the game, while Ursinus held a 12-5 advantage in penalty corners. Meghan McGillen made fives saves in goal for Middlebury, while Jessica Lamina made 16 stops for Ursinus. The loss breaks a 10-game wining streak for the Bears.
