Middlebury wrapped up its second consecutive perfect regular season with a 4-2 win over Trinity. The Panthers have now won 33 of their last 34 games and are ranked third in the latest Division III national poll.
For the second straight year, Middlebury will host the NESCAC semifinals and championship. The games will take place next Saturday and Sunday, November 6th and 7th on Kohn Field. Match-ups and game times will be announced Monday. Trinity will play a first-round road game on Sunday.
Trinity took a 1-0 lead at the 15:17 mark of the first half on a penalty shot to the top left corner by Lauren Malinowski. The game remained at 1-0 into the second half where the Panthers exploded for three consecutive goals.
Reid Berrien started the scoring with a goal after a scramble in front of the cage. Lauryn Nicasio made it a 2-0 game at the 22:56 mark as she converted a penalty corner after a nice crossing pass by Ashley Pullen. Claire Edelen tipped in a shot from Janie Mackey at 12:36 to give Middlebury a 3-1 lead. Trinity answered with 8:44 left as Katie Curran slipped a shot past Meghan McGillen. The Panthers answered at 2:29 as Allison Smith scored an impressive goal with a shot through her own legs with her back to the net.
McGillen ended the game with five saves, while Courtney Bergh made 18 saves for Trinity.
