Middlebury Competes at BU's Valentine Invitational

The Middlebury women's indoor track and field team competed at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday. The Panthers turned in several strong performances in the non-scoring meet, facing off against a large contingent of competitors from all three NCAA divisions. Middlebury has numerous athletes competing at the Ephs Field & Track Meet on Saturday, before hosting the Division III New England Championships on February 28-29.

Grace Desmond excelled in the 60-meter high hurdles, placing second in her heat with a time of 9.31 seconds. That put her eighth overall in the field of 72 competitors and was the highest placing Division III hurdler.

The Panthers added two top-40 finishes in the 60-meter dash, as Lizzie Walkes (8.19 seconds) was 36th and Ellie Greenberg (8.20) was 37th.

In the 200 meters, Gretchen McGrath won her heat with a time of 25.70 seconds, coming up just short of the school record by three one-hundredths of a second. She also won her heat in the 400 in 57.74 seconds.

Meg Wilson ran a time of 2:14.70 in the 800, while Katie Glew finished the mile in 4:58.61. Wilson was the third Division III finisher among 261 runners and Glew was the fourth from that division out of 255 participants.
