The Middlebury track and field teams concluded their annual spring trip to the west coast by taking part in the California Collegiate Open hosted by UC San Diego. The Panther men finished third out of 13 scoring teams with 89 points in a meet that featured teams from all three NCAA divisions, while the women were also third of 13 and accumulated 79.5 points. The Panthers return to action Friday when they compete in the Sam Howell Invitational hosted by Princeton.

For the women, Tasha Greene won the 1,500 meters in 4:35.21, edging out teammates Abigail Nadler (4:35.94) and Katie Glew (4:38.13) who raced to second and third. Cassie Kearney was the runner-up in the 800 meters (2:13.76), while Gretchen McGrath stopped the clock in fourth place during the 400 meters (58.55).

The 4x400-meter relay team of Lucy Lang, McGrath, Julia Munz and Ava O'Mara finished fourth in 3:55.52.

Off the track, Rebecca Gorman ended up second in the javelin toss (123'8").

During the men's competition, Minhaj Rahman was second in the hammer throw, breaking his own school record with a toss of 188'10". The mark eclipses the toss of 183'6" that he set last Saturday at the PLNU Collegiate Invitational.

John Natalone was tied for second in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 15'7", while Nathaniel Klein finished third in the shot put (49'1").

On the track, the 4x400-meter relay team of Jimmy Martinez, Arden Coleman, Joshua Howard and William Robertson crossed the finish line with a winning time of 3:17.83. A few events earlier, the 4x100-meter relay quartet of Conrado Banky, Coleman, Matthew Durst and Nicholas Hendrix was third (42.86).

Individually, Miles Meijer placed third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:30.85, while Jonathan Perlman finished third in the 1,500 meters (3:55.69).
