Two School Records Fall as Panthers Compete at Open New Englands

Two school records highlighted the Middlebury track & field teams' participation in the two-day Open New England Championships on Friday and Saturday hosted by Williams. The men finished in a tie for 13th out of 37 scoring teams at the event, while the women wound up tied for 36th of 40 squads who tallied points. All three NCAA divisions were represented at the meet, as top-eight finishers earned All-New England honors. Selected members of the respective teams will participate in the NCAA Championships from May 25-27 at the Spire Institute in Geneva, Ohio.

In the men's events, the 4x400-meter relay team of Arden Coleman, James Mulliken, Jimmy Martinez and Alex Nichols finished second in the event with a time of 3:11.95, just .13 seconds behind the winning quartet from the University of Rhode Island. That mark is the fastest this season in Division III and shatters the previous school-record time of 3:16.47 set in 2005.

Kevin Serrao lowered his own school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:50.50, finishing in fourth place and garnering All-New England accolades.

During the women's action, two Panthers earned All-New England honors with eighth-place efforts. Catie Skinner recorded a time of 10:53.92 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while Talia Ruxin stopped the clock with a mark of 17:14.89 in the 5,000-meter run.
