Panther Women Take Panther Spring Invite Title, Men Finish Second

The Middlebury track & field teams hosted their lone home meet of the season Sunday on a sun-soaked Dragone Track. The women won the meet with 298 points, outdistancing second-place Franklin Pierce's 100, while the men finished with 216.66 points, just behind Franklin Pierce's 220. In addition to the Ravens, the Panthers welcomed Plattsburgh State, Lyndon State and Green Mountain. The Panther squads return to action next Saturday at the Bowdoin Invitational.

On the women's side, the Panthers picked up victories in 13 events. Elizabeth Walkes claimed two titles in the 100-meter dash (12.89) and 200-meter dash (26.91). Additional wins on the track came from Anna Willig in the 400-meter dash (59.42), Lucy Lang during the 800-meter run (2:19.72) and Sasha Whittle in the 1,500-meter race (4:38.55).

In two of the longer events, Abigail Nadler won the 5,000-meter run (17:48.13), while Cate Skinner crossed the line first during the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a Dragone Track record of 11:08.40.

During the relay events, the 4x100-meter team of Ellie Greenberg, Natalie Cheung, Maddie Pronovost and Walkes won with a time of 49.37, while the 4x400-meter relay of Paige Fernandez, Willig, Basia Osborne and Kate McCluskey earned the title in 4:02.58.

Away from the track, Kristin Kimble won the high jump (4'11.75"), Kreager Taber cleared the bar with the best height during the pole vault (10'6"), Pronovost claimed the long jump crown (17'5.25"), while Devon Player tossed the javelin to a winning distance of 132'10".

During the men's competition, the Panthers were victorious in seven events. Jimmy Martinez was a two-time winner in both the 200-meter (22.34) and 400-meter dashes (48.59). Jonathan Perlman crossed the line ahead of the field in the 5,000-meter run (15:21.25), while the 4x400-meter relay team of Martinez, Joshua Howard, Arden Coleman and James Mulliken posted a victorious time of 3:29.01.

Off the track, Nathaniel Albers and John Natalone tied for the title in the pole vault with a height of 13'11.25", while Brenden Edwards claimed the discus (135'1"). Alfred Hurley posted a victory in the javelin with a winning toss of 167'10".
