Track & Field Teams Compete at Albany Spring Classic

The Middlebury track and field teams turned in a host of solid performances on Saturday when the Panthers competed at the 33rd University of Albany Spring Classic. The event featured no team scores with more than 700 competitors from all three NCAA divisions as well as club teams. The Panthers return to action next Saturday at the NESCAC Championships hosted by Bowdoin.

The Panther women claimed a pair of event titles on Saturday. On the track, the 4x100-meter relay team of Ellie Greenberg, Natalie Cheung, Maddie Pronovost and Elizabeth Walkes won with a time of 49.17. Away from the track, Julia Lothrop won the javelin crown (122'6"), edging teammate Devon Player (122'2").

Other top-five finishes on the track were tallied by Talia Ruxin, who ran to a runner-up showing in the 5,000-meter run (17:45.28). Rose Kelly was fifth in the 1,500-meter run (4:52.51), while Claire Gomba stopped the clock fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:05.34).

In the field events, Jane Freda was both fifth in the long jump (17') and the triple jump (35'7.75"), behind four Division I athletes in each event.

In the men's competition, numerous top-six finishes were recorded by the Panthers. Henry Fleming finished with a time of 9:01.41 to place third in the 3,000-meter run, while Harrison Knowlton was fourth in the 5,000-meter run (15:22.70). In the 110-meter high hurdles, Michael Pallozzi was the top Division III runner with a time of 15.60 to place third in the preliminaries. Nathan Hill crossed the line fourth in the 1,500-meter run (3:59.13), while Connor Evans was sixth (4:01.91) in the same event.

Additional sixth-place efforts came from Jackson Bock in the 200-meter dash (21.47), Paul Malloy during the 400-meter hurdles (58.66) and Theodore Henderson in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:59.28).

Off the track, Tyler Chaisson was sixth in the shot put (44'10.25"), while Taylor Moore grabbed a sixth-place finish in the javelin (151').
