Adrian Walsh's fifth-place finish in the 10,000-meter run highlighted day one of the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Waverly, Iowa. The three-day event hosted by Wartburg in Waverly, Iowa continues on Friday at Walston-Hoover Stadium with the first event scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
In the longest event of the meet, the 10,000-meter run, Walsh ran to All-American honors with a fifth-place finish following a ninth-place effort in the event last spring. The fourth-year Panther was in a sprint to the finish with two other competitors for spots three through five, crossing the line with a solid time of 36:32.07 on the warm and humid night. Places three, four and five in the grueling race were separated by just 1.16 seconds.
During Thursday's women's 1,500-meter preliminary run, Abigail Nadler posted a time of 4:35.48 for 12th place, qualifying for the final. The top-12 fastest times will vie for the national title Saturday at 2:35 p.m.
The Panther women will be represented on Friday by Alexandra Morris and Lucy Lang. Morris will run the 400-meter preliminary beginning at 6:00 p.m., while Lang competes in the 800-meter run preliminary scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
