The Middlebury track and field teams concluded their annual spring trip to California taking part in the California Collegiate Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Panther women finished sixth out of 12 teams with 56 points, while the men were tied for sixth of 11 accumulating 61 points. The Panthers return to action Saturday when they take part in a tri-meet with host Springfield along with Plattsburgh State.
In men's competition, many top-five finishes were recorded by the Panthers. Highlighting the performances was Kevin Serrao, who claimed the event title in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:54.20.In the same event, Sebastian Matt was fourth (3:55.16) and Sam Klockenkemper was right behind in fifth (3:56.41).
Jimmy Martinez ran to a fifth-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a mark of 22.20, while Ascencion Aispuro was also fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:57.18). The 4x100-meter relay team crossed the line with the third-quickest time of 43.97.
Off the track, Tyler Chaisson tossed the shot put 45'10.5", good for a fourth-place finish. Deklan Robinson threw the javelin to a fifth-place distance of 169'3", while Jared Whitman was also fifth in the pole vault (14'5.25").
On the women's side, Abigail Nadler stopped the clock with the second-fastest time in the 5,000-meter run (17:24.63). Top-five efforts were recorded by Lucy Lang with a third-place showing in the 800-meter run (2:09.93) and Basia Osborne during the 400-meter hurdles (1:06.43).
The 4x100-meter relay claimed the fourth-fastest time in the event of 52.40, while the 4x400-meter relay was fifth in 4:01.77.
During field events, Carly Andersen tossed the javelin to a runner-up effort of 133'11", while Julia Lothrop was fifth in the same event (118'2").
