The Middlebury men's and women's indoor track teams opened the 2016 schedule by participating in the 47th Dartmouth Relays on Sunday inside the Leverone Field House. The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they will host the Middlebury Winter Classic. The event will be the first track and field meet held inside the Virtue Field House on the New Balance Foundation Track, which opened its doors in January 2015.
During the men's competition, the 4x200 relay of Jeremy Carter, Brandon Cushman, Paul Malloy and Alex Nichols were victorious with a time of 1:35.23, winning by 1.58 seconds over the second-place quartet.
Other point-scoring efforts came from Nichols with a fourth-place finish in the 400m dash (50.53), while sixth-place showings were recorded by John Natalone in the pole vault (14'1.25") and Nathaniel Durfee in the triple jump (39'10").
In women's action, Kreager Taber led the Panthers with a fourth-place showing in the pole vault, clearing the bar at 10'6.25". The 4x200 relay of Paige Fernandez, Perri Silverhart, Kate McCluskey and Natalie Cheung finished fourth, crossing the line in 1:51.49.
Additional top-six marks were recorded by Sasha Whittle, who wound up fifth in the 1-mile run (5:18.22) and Lucy Lang with a time of 59.80 in the 400-meter dash, good for sixth.
