Fourth-ranked Middlebury opened its season with a 2-0 NESCAC victory over Connecticut College Sunday afternoon on Kohn Field. The Panthers outshot their opponents 15-1 in the game, using a pair of second-half goals to pick up the win. Middlebury is back at it on Monday when it visits Smith for a 5:00 p.m. game, while the Camels host Smith on Wednesday.

Neither team had many scoring chances in the first half, with the Panthers finding themselves unsuccessful on back-to-back penalty corners with 14:00 remaining. Middlebury's best chance to score came with 1:05 left when Grace Jennings sent a ball from the left side across to Carson Peacock, as her redirect went just wide. The Panthers closed the half with three consecutive penalty corners, but couldn't find the back of the cage.

Connecticut College's best opportunity to score came seven minutes into the second half when Heidi Halsted knocked a shot toward goal after a penalty corner, but Panther keeper Emily Miller got a glove on the ball for the save.

Middlebury's first goal of the season came on a penalty stroke, as Pam Schulman converted with a shot to the middle right side of the net at the 43:16 mark.

The Panthers struck again at 59:19, converting their 18th penalty corner of the contest. Bridget Instrum inserted the ball to Anna Kenyon, who stopped it for Shannon Hutteman's blast into the right side of the cage.

The two-goal advantage was all Middlebury needed as it picked up the home and season-opening victory. Miller made one save in goal to earn the win, while Ryley van der Velde made six saves for the Camels. Middlebury finished with a 19-2 advantage in penalty corners.
