Walsh's Ninth-Place Effort Highlights Day One of NCAA Championship

A trio of athletes from the Middlebury women's track & field team competed in their respective events during the opening day of the 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. Action for the three-day meet continues on Friday at the Merrick-Pinkard Track & Field Complex with the first event scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m.

In the longest event of the meet, the 10,000-meter run, Middlebury's Adrian Walsh narrowly missed All-American honors with a ninth-place finish. The third-year Panther led the field around the track for the first half of the race, finishing with a strong time of 36:27.40.

During Thursday's women's 1,500-meter preliminary run, Sarah Guth posted a time of 4:38.59 for 18th place, while Robin Vincent crossed the line in 21st with a mark of 4:44.38. Neither Panther qualified for Saturday's final, as the top-12 fastest times will vie for the national title.

The Panther women will be idle from competition on Friday and will return to the track and throwing events Saturday. Carly Andersen and Devon Player will throw the javelin beginning at 2:30 p.m., while Alison Maxwell will run for a national title in the 5,000-meter run at 4:05 p.m.
