Panther Men Win Middlebury Invitational, Women Finish Second

The Panther track & field teams hosted their lone home meet of the season, as the Middlebury Invitational was moved up a day to Friday due to the possibility of poor weather conditions predicted for Saturday. The men won the meet with 214 points, while the women finished second with 198. The Panthers welcomed Springfield, Castleton State, Plattsburgh State, Williams and Green Mountain to a sun-soaked Dragone Track.

On the men's side, the Panthers picked up victories in a total of 11 events. Michael Pallozzi won the 200-meter dash (22.83), Alex Nichols led the field to the line in the 400-meter dash (50.19), while Kevin Serrao was victorious in the 800-meter run (1:56.64) by .01 over teammate Lucas Carpinello (1:56.65). Ascencion Aispuro picked up the win in the 1500-meter run (4:07.06), while Kevin Wood stopped the clock with the fastest time in the 5,000 meter run (15:34.75).

Taylor Shortsleeve claimed victory in the 110 hurdles (15.20), while Jake Wood was first in the 400 hurdles (55.90). In relay events, the Panther 4x100 team of Sam Rives, Jeremy Carter, Fritz Parker and Will Bain led the field to the line (43.57), while the 4x400 relay of Parker, J. Wood, Carter and Nichols also picked up a win in 3:26.47.

In field events, Daniel Plunkett tossed the discus the furthest (128'05"), while Ian Riley tallied a win in the javelin throw (193-11).

During the women's competition, the Panthers were victorious in nine events. Sarah Guth won the 1500-meter run (4:49.05), Adrian Walsh claimed victory in the 5000-meter race (18:13.58), Hannah Blackburn ran the fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles (15.37), while Paige Fernandez broke the tape first in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.34).

Cate Skinner finished first in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (12:11.24), while the 4x100 relay team of Devan Accurso, Gigi Miller, Natalie Cheung and Lauren Henry won in a time of 50.54. Another relay victory was produced by the 4x400 quartet of Alexandra Morris, Fernandez, Halle Gustafson and Kate McCluskey (4:03.35).

During field events, Marykate Melanson won the high jump over Maddie Pronovost, as Melanson needed the fewest number of jumps to clear 4'11.75". Additionally, Carly Andersen tossed the javelin to a distance of 131'11".

The Panther squads will return to action next Saturday at the Dick Farley Invitational hosted by Williams.
