Panther Men Third, Women Fourth in PLNU Collegiate Invitational

The Middlebury track and field teams concluded their annual spring trip to California taking part in the PLNU Collegiate Invitational. The Panther men finished third out of 12 teams with 219.50 points, while the women finished fourth of 13 with 188 points. The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they host their lone home dual meet of the spring against Springfield.

In men's competition, many top-five finishes were recorded. Kevin Serrao finished second in the 800 meter run (1:57.00), while Jake Wood was third in the 400-meter hurdles (55.24). Fourth-place efforts came from Sebastian Matt in the 5,000-meter run (15:30.63) and Sam Klockenkemper during the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:51.47). In relay events, the 4x100 team of Sam Rives, Jeremy Carter, Fritz Parker and Will Bain crossed the line fifth (43.15).

Off the track, Daniel Plunkett tossed the shot put 49'7", good for a runner-up spot and the third-best throw in school history. Taylor Shortsleeve cleared the bar fourth in the high jump (6'2"), while Conor Simons wound up fifth in the pole vault (13'11.25").

Sasha Whittle stopped the clock with the second-fastest time in the 5,000-meter run (19:01.64) during women's action. A trio of fourth-place efforts were recorded by Cate Skinner in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:58.80), Alexandra Morris during the 400-meter dash (59.57) and Erzie Nagy as a participant in the 800-meter run (2:16.80).

In her first race since her indoor national championship mile run, Alison Maxwell crossed the line fifth in the 1500-meter run (4:42.58), while Paige Fernandez also grabbed a fifth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.62).

During field events, Carly Andersen tallied a pair of top-five finishes. She was fourth in the discus throw (120'8") and fifth in the javelin throw (127'6"), while Devon Player was fourth in the javelin throw (131'9").
