Alison Maxwell broke a 15-year old indoor record in the 3,000-meter run by more than five seconds as the Middlebury track teams took part in the non-scoring Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday. Teams from Division I, II and III competed at the meet, with several Panthers turning in several top-10 performances.
Maxwell crossed the line with a winning time of 10:10.68, nearly six seconds faster than her closest competitor. Maxwell's time shattered the school record time of 10:15.75 set by Michela Adrian back in 2000.
In the race, Maxwell led five Panthers who stopped the clock in the top-eight spots. Finishing third was Adrian Walsh (10:16.69), Robin Vincent was fourth (10:17.88), Erzie Nagy finished fifth (10:17.91) and Sarah Guth ended up eighth (10:34.31).
Alexandra Morris led three Panthers in the 400-meter run with a fifth-place finish (1:01.51), while Paige Fernandez (7th, 1:02.39) and Kate McCluskey (9th, 1:02.50) also cracked the top-10 finishers.
Additional solid efforts came from Summer Spillane in the mile run (3rd, 5:16.61), Brianna Bisson in the 1,000-meter run (5th, 3:05.16), Addis Fouche-Channer (7th, 2:26.51) and Lauren Bougioukas (8th, 2:26.58) during the 800-meter run and Hannah Blackburn in the 60-meter hurdles (7th, 9.62). The 4x400-meter relay team of Perri Silverhart, McCluskey, Fernandez and Morris crossed the line in sixth with a time of 4:13.83.
Off the track, Emily Mellen cleared the bar at 9'0.25" for seventh, while Blackburn tied for 10th in the long jump (16'11.25").
In track events on the men's side, Sam Cartwright recorded the quickest time during the 1,000-meter run (2:31.53), while not far behind was Kevin Serrao in third (2:32.08). Lucas Carpinello tallied a second-place showing in the 800-meter run (1:58.75), while Wilder Schaaf also posted a runner-up effort in the 3,000-meter run (8:42.96). Not far behind Schaaf in the 3,000 was Kevin Wood in fifth (8:47.67), Sam Klockenkemper with a sixth-place time (8:48.18) and Brian Rich in eighth (8:50.26).
In the shorter races, Will Bain wound up sixth in the 60-meter dash (7.17), while Tyler Farrell also crossed the line sixth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.07). The 4x400-meter relay team of Fritz Parker, Serrao, Carpinello and Jeremy Carter finished third with a mark of 3:29.30.
Off the track, Jared Whitman finished 10th in the pole vault clearing the bar at 13'0.25".
The Panthers will return to action next Saturday when they take part in both the David Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University, and the Gordon Kelly Invitational at M.I.T.
