Box Score Third-ranked Middlebury scored four first-half goals on its way to a 5-0 win over Husson (6-7) in the first-ever meeting between the two schools. The Panthers are off until next Saturday when they visit Bates, while the Eagles have no break in their schedule as they visit second-ranked Bowdoin on Wednesday.
Middlebury took a 1-0 advantage just 3:40 into the game on the 11th goal of the season from Pam Schulman. After her initial shot was saved by Husson goalkeeper Anne-Marie Provencal, Schulman gathered her own rebound and found the back of the cage.
Annie Leonard took a pass from Grace Jennings and converted at the 6:50 mark to make it a 2-0 game. The tally was her team-leading 13th of the season. Jennings assisted on the next goal as well, working a give-and-go with Bridget Instrum, who finished for her seventh of the year.
Leading 3-0, the Panthers converted on a penalty corner at 27:10. Instrum inserted the ball to Anna Kenyon, who stopped it before Shannon Hutteman blasted a shot past Provencal for her fourth tally this fall.
The game remained 4-0 before Audrey Quirk carried the ball downfield and sent a crossing pass from right to left. Carson Peacock was there to convert for her second of the year and a 5-0 advantage.
Middlebury nearly added to its lead in the 68th minute, but Husson's Kayla Royer made her second defensive save of the game, keeping it a 5-0 contest.
Emily Miller picked up the win in goal with one first-half save, while Evangeline Dunphy played a scoreless second half. Provencal finished with 10 stops for the Eagles.
Middlebury held a 28-3 shots advantage in the game and led by a 17-2 margin in penalty corners.
