Box Score Four Middlebury goals over nearly a 12-minute stretch in the first half, including a hat trick from Pam Schulman, lifted the Panthers to a 6-0 NESCAC victory Saturday afternoon over Trinity on Kohn Field. The game between the two conference opponents served as a Play4TheCure match. The third-ranked Panthers (11-1, 7-1) return to action Sunday when they host Husson at 1:00 p.m., while the Bantams host Wesleyan on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m.
Middlebury got on the scoreboard in the 15th minute with the first of Schulman's three goals via a penalty stroke. Less than three minutes later, Schulman lifted a shot over the head of Trinity goalie Sophie Fitzpatrick at 17:57 on a nifty feed by Bridget Instrum. Schulman completed her three-goal effort when she tapped in a cross just inside the far post on an assist from Annie Leonard.
Ahead by a 3-0 score, the hosts scored at the 26:52 mark when Grace Jennings broke in behind the Bantam defense. She sent a cross onto the stick of Molly Freeman, who tapped in her 11th goal of the season, helping Middlebury take a 4-0 edge into the half.
The Panthers added a pair of second-half goals from Leonard at 42:03 and 43:43, respectively, in the victory.
Trinity's best opportunity came in the 63rd minute when Olivia Tapsall laced a shot from just inside the circle as part of a penalty corner that Middlebury goalie Emily Miller kicked away with her pad.
Miller posted four saves for her third-straight shutout and fourth overall this season, as the Panthers held a 21-7 advantage in shots and an 11-5 edge in penalty corners. Fitzpatrick was credited with 12 stops for the Bantams.
