The Middlebury men's and women's indoor track teams turned in some impressive results at the Tufts Stampede meet. Five different athletes won events at the event, with several top-four finishes. The teams return to action next Saturday at the Dartmouth Classic.
Sam Cartwright won the mile for Middlebury in 4:20.70, while Sam Klockenkemper wasn't far behind in second place with a 4:21.06 effort. Also picking up a win on the men's side was Nicholas Blelloch, who crossed the line in a mere 8.95 seconds to win the 60-meter hurdles. Will Bain was third (7.20) in the 60-meter race, Lucas Carpinello finished third (2:35.26) in the 1,000, Kevin Wood stopped the clock in third (14:53.47) during the 5,000, while a time of 1:58.29 earned Kevin Serrao a fourth-place finish in the 800-meter event. The men's relay team comprised of Fritz Parker, Jake Wood, Chris Veasey and Jeremy Carter took home third-place honors in the 4x400 relay, finishing with a time of 3:34.03.
The Middlebury women dominated the 600-meter race, placing the top-three runners in the event. Alexandra Morris took home the title in 1:41.21, followed by Paige Fernandez in third (1:42.18) and Kate McCluskey in fourth (1:43.30). The Panthers fared just as well in the mile, as Erzie Nagy won the race in 5:12.22, followed closely by Robin Vincent in second (5:13.90) and Sarah Guth in third (5:13.92).
Also taking home individual titles were Katie Carlson in the 5,000 meters (18:03.53) and Hannah Blackburn in the long jump (16'7.75"). Blackburn also placed fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.75 seconds.
Day Robins and Perri Silverhart both took home second-place finishes, Robbins in the triple jump (33'11.5") and Silverhart in the 400 meters (1:02.31). Maddie Pronovost garned fifth-place honors in the pentathlon with 2,897 points.
