Box Score Third-ranked Middlebury had little trouble with St. Lawrence (1-3), topping the Saints 7-0 under the lights on Kohn Field. The Panthers (2-0) will play their first road game of the season on Saturday, visiting Connecticut College with a noon start. St. Lawrence returns to action at Wells on Saturday.
Lauren Berestecky put the Panthers on the board just 2:42 into the contest, driving to the goal from the right side. Annie Leonard scored the first of her career in similar fashion at the 5:44 mark, ripping a shot into the far side of the cage.
Middlebury made it a 3-0 game 10:48 in when Josie Trichka tipped in a shot from Anne Entwisle following a penalty corner. Less than three minutes later, Olivia Jurkowitz netted the first of her career, converting a pass from Alyssa DiMaio on a penalty corner to make it 4-0 just 13:44 into the game.
Hollis Perticone closed the first-half scoring with the first of her career, scoring with a shot to the top-left corner to put her team on top 5-0 at the break.
Just 3:59 into the second session, Jillian Green put home a rebound after an original shot from Leonard had been saved.
The Panthers had a great chance to score again in the 46th minute, but a great diving save by Julia Hudson denied Shannon Hutteman, before she got up to make another stop on Berestecky.
Middlebury scored the game's final goal at the 48:04 mark when Leonard fired home her second of the contest into the back left corner of the cage.
Middlebury finished with a 38-1 shots advantage in the contest, while holding a 19-1 lead in penalty corners. Emily Knapp (56:59) and Evangeline Dunphy (13:01) both saw action in net for the Panthers. Saint starter Kim Haab allowed four goals and made seven saves over the first 18:41, while Hudson made 14 stops in 51:19 of action with three goals allowed.
