Competing against mostly Division I schools, the Middlebury track & field teams took part Saturday in the University of Albany Spring Classic. The Panthers will have a week off before they take part in the NESCAC Outdoor Championships hosted by Colby.
Highlighting top performances was a runner-up showing from Kevin Chu in the 110 hurdles (14.75), while Taylor Shortsleeve was right behind in third (15.40). Other top-10 performances came from Jake Wood who was fifth in the 400 hurdles (56.57), while Brandon Cushman was sixth (57.09). Sam Craft finished in fifth place in the 800m run (1:58.47). Sam Cartwright finished fifth in the 1500m (4:02.20), while Lucas Carpinello was seventh (4:03.80) and Sebastian Matt was ninth (4:06.10).
Bryan Holtzman finished eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 10.79, the third-fastest time in school history. Nick Spencer also leapt to a sixth-place distance of 20'8” in the long jump.
During women's action on the track, Alison Maxwell led the Panthers, racing to third place in the 800m with a time of 2:16.09. Kathleen Rominger was fourth in the 1500m run (4:49.00), while Olivia Artaiz was eighth (5:00.50). Emily Singer finished sixth in the 5000m (18:45.69), while Paige Fernandez was also sixth in the 400m hurdles (1:06.87).
In field events, Carly Andersen tossed the javelin 121'1” for third place, while Grace Wildermuth was seventh in the event (104'8”). Other top-seven finishes were posted by Hannah Blackburn in the long jump (fifth, 16'11.5”), Emma McGuirk in the triple jump (seventh, 34'2.25”) and Holly Lanchantin in the shot put (seventh, 31'6.75”).
Additionally, a pair of Panthers competed in events in Princeton's Larry Ellis Invitational, also against Division I athletes. Kevin Wood finished 34th in the 5,000m run (14:37.15), while Sam Klockenkemper was 67th in the 1,500m run (4:00.52).
