The Middlebury track & field teams recorded a quartet of individual event victories, as they concluded their annual spring trip taking part in the Point Loma Nazarene University Invitational. The Panthers return to action next Saturday when they travel to Massachusetts for a dual against Springfield.
In men's competition, the Panthers notched three event victories. Kevin Wood was victorious in the 5000m run by nearly 27 seconds with a time of 14:54.16. Jake Wood raced to the line first in the 400 hurdles (55.21), while Brandon Cushman finished third (57.43) and Kevin Chu was fourth (58.05). Jason McCallum notched a pair of top-five efforts. McCallum won the pole vault clearing the bar at 14'11”, while he stopped the clock with the second-best time in the 100 meters (10.98).
On the track, other top-five performances were recorded by Chu in the 110 hurdles (2nd, 15.28), Alex Nichols in the 400m (2nd, 49.39), Wilder Schaaf in the 800m (2nd, 1:55.53) and Peter Hetzler in the 400m (4th, 49.85). Sam Klockenkemper crossed the line fourth in 3000 steeplechase (9:58.58), while Sebastian Matt turned in a fifth-place time in the 1500m (4:05.74).
In field events, Taylor Shortsleeve cleared the high jump bar at 6'4”, good for fourth. Fifth-place performances came from Deklan Robinson in the long jump (21'2”) and the javelin (155'4”), Diego Galan Donlo in the triple jump (41'1”) and Ola Fadario fifth in the discus (125'4”).
On the women's side, Lauren Pincus won the javelin toss. Fresh off her school-record performance a week ago, she won the event by nearly five feet with a toss traveling 135'7”.
During events on the track, Summer Spillane raced to the finish line as the runner-up in the 3000 steeplechase (11:15.82) ahead of Alison Maxwell in third (11:34.31), Cate Skinner in fourth (11:53.04) and Abigail Pohl in fifth (12:01.09). Another second-place effort was produced by Sarah Guth in the 5000m (18:32.63) ahead of teammate Kathleen Leib in fourth (19:11.14).
Alexandra Morris finished third in 400m (58.21), Katherine Tercek was fourth in the 1500m (4:53.39), and Madison Goodstein was fifth in the 100m hurdles (16.31).
Hannah Blackburn recorded three top-five efforts for Middlebury. She stopped the clock fourth in the 100 hurdles (16.01), while leaping to third in both the long jump (17'7.5”) and the triple jump (35'2”). Additional top-five showings came from Laura Strom in the high jump (3rd, 4'11.75”), Emma McGuirk in the triple jump (4th, 34'11”) and Carly Andersen in the javelin (4th, 120'8”).
