Selected members of the Middlebury track & field teams closed out the indoor portion of their respective schedules when they competed during the final day of the 2014 NCAA Indoor Championships. The two-day event was hosted by Nebraska Wesleyan University in the Bob Devaney Sports Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska.
During preliminary action on Friday, Middlebury's Wilder Schaaf finished fourth in his respective heat of the mile run with a time of 4:13.36 and crossed the finish line with the eighth-quickest time. In Saturday's final, Schaaf narrowly missed All-American status by just over a tenth of a second with a ninth-place run of 4:10.99.
In the final event of the championship for the men, the Middlebury 4x400 relay quartet of Fritz Parker, Bryan Holtzman, Alex Nichols and Peter Hetzler finished in 12th place with a time of 3:19.89.
On the women's side, Laura Strom entered the high jump competition tied for the nation's top height of 5'8.5”, but failed to clear the bar in her three attempts.
The teams will now turn their attention to the outdoor season. Middlebury will travel to California for its spring break trip and take part in a pair of meets the next two Saturday hosted by Point Loma Nazarene.
