Three School Records Fall as Middlebury Track Competes at Open N.E. Championships

A trio of Middlebury indoor track records fell  as the Panthers competed at the Open New England Championships on Saturday hosted by Division I Boston University. The event featured over 70 schools combined from all three NCAA divisions. The teams will return to the track next Saturday for the ECAC Championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston.

On the men's side, the quartet of Fritz Parker, Bryan Holtzman, Alex Nichols and Peter Hetzler broke the school record and earned All-New England honors in the 4x400 meter relay in a time of 3:16.82. That time breaks a mark of 3:18.61 set back in 2005.

In other events on the track, Holtzman broke his own school record in the 200m run with a qualifying time of 22.24 in the preliminaries, lowering last year's school record mark of 22.30. The men's DMR team of Sam Cartwright, Nichols, Lucas Carpinello and Wilder Schaaf also earned All-New England honors with a fifth-place effort of 10:06.19.

On the women's side, Alexandra Morris broke her own school record in the 400m run with a time of 56.97, good for ninth place and narrowly missing the finals. The distance medley relay team of Erzie Nagy, Alison Maxwell, Morris and Jackie Kearney earned All-New England honors with a sixth-place time of 11:47.43.

Laura Strom was also an All-New England recipient in the high jump with a fourth-place height of 5'7”.
