Indoor Track Teams Compete at Dartmouth Classic

The Middlebury indoor track teams took part in the Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday. Teams from Division I, II and III competed at the meet, with several Panthers turning in several top-eight performances.

In women's action, a pair of runner-up finishes were tallied by Laura Strom and Alexandra Morris. Strom cleared the bar at 5'6” during the high jump, while Morris raced home with a time of 58.45 in the 400-meter dash. Morris' time is currently the eighth-best in all of NCAA Division III. Hannah Blackburn produced a trio of top-eight finishes. She was third in the long jump (17'0”), fourth in the triple jump (33'11.25”) and eighth in the 60-meter hurdles (11.10).

Additional solid efforts were turned in by Alison Maxwell in the 800-meter run (5th, 2:24.57) and the 1-mile run (7th, 5:11.45), Emma McGuirk in the triple jump (5th, 33'8.75”), Lauren Henry in the 60-meter dash (6th, 8.18), Abigail Pohl in the 1000-meter run (6th, 3:04.17), Paige Fernandez in the 400-meter run (7th, 1:02.51) and Chelsea Montello in the long jump (6th, 16'7”).

In track events on the men's side, Kevin Wood notched a third-place finish with a time of 8:41.23 in the 3000-meter run behind a pair of Division I runners.  Bryan Holtzman was fourth in the 60-meter dash (7.17), while Will Bain also competed in the final and finished seventh (7.27). Luke Carpinello wound up fourth in the 1000-meter run (2:32.54), while Alex Nichols led a trio of Panthers to the finish line in the 400-meter run. Nichols finished fifth in 51.13, while Peter Hetzler was sixth (51.26) and Alex Ugorji was seventh (52.05).

Off the track, Jason McCallum finished fourth in the pole vault clearing the bar at 14'6”, while Alec Drobac was fifth in the long jump (20'3.75”). Brian Parker leapt his way to a fifth-place finish in the triple jump at 39'3.75”, while Diego Galan Donlo was eighth in the high jump (6'2”).

The Panthers will return to action next Friday and Saturday when they take part in the Boston University Invitational.
