The Middlebury College track and field teams hosted the 2012 Panther Invitational Saturday at the Dragone Track & Field Complex. Middlebury won the women's event with 147 points, followed by Bowdoin (138) and Springfield (109). The Polar Bears (157) captured the men's meet, with the Panthers (137) and Pride (117) following.

Senior Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) picked up another win in the 800, capturing the event with a time of 2:17.20.  Junior Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.) defeated the field in the 400 with a time of 58.50, while senior Rebecca Fanning (Ipswich, Mass.) finished with a time of 4:47.91 to place first in the 1,500. Winning the 100 hurdles was senior Mia Martinez (Ridgewood, N.J.) in 15.02, while junior Grace Doering (Darien, Conn.) topped her opponents in the high jump with a 5'3” effort.

On the men's side, first-year athlete Taylor Shortsleeve (Medfield, Mass.) took home titles in both the 110 hurdles (16.18) and the high jump (6'2”). Also picking up wins for the men were sophomore Jason McCallum (San Diego, Calif.) in the 100 (11.42) and senior Marc Delaney (Wading River, N.Y.) in the hammer (148'10”).

Senior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) competed for the Panthers in a meet at Stanford, looking to qualify in the 10,000, a rare race in New England. Not only did Schmidt qualify for the NCAA's, he set a new school record and is ranked first in the country in the event, finishing with a time of 29:23.62.
