The Middlebury track and field teams hosted the Middlebury Invitational at the Dragone Track & Field Complex on Saturday afternoon. The Panthers battled the University of Vermont for the second time this week, with Middlebury having previously visited Burlington on Tuesday.
Sophomore Peter Hetzler led the men with a pair of wins, capturing the 200 in 22.74 and the 400 in 50.78. Senior Marc Delaney was also a winner on the men's side with a toss of 144'7” in the hammer.
Highlighting the women's victories on Saturday were senior Mia Martinez in the 100 hurdles, junior Grace Doering in the high jump (5'5”) and junior Danielle Baker in the pole vault (11'.75”).
Middlebury also sent six athletes to Princeton to compete in the Larry Ellis Memorial races. The meet was comprised of mostly Division I athletes, with some professionals as well. Junior Addie Tousley set a new school record with a time of 16:53.74 in the 5,000 and is now ranked fourth nationally. She placed 18th among 90 racers in the event. Senior Margo Cramer set a new school mark in the 1,500, earning a nation's-best time of 4:21.74 to place third among 63 racers. Also setting a new school record was junior Jack Davies, who also has the nation's top time with an 8:56.41 effort in the steeplechase, placing ninth among 41.
Senior Michael Schmidt is now fourth nationally in the 5,000, earning a time of 14:20.41 at the event. Junior Juliet Ryan-Davis earned a time of 2:13.99 in the 800, while senior Rebecca Fanning finished the 1,500 in 4:36.18.
