The Middlebury College indoor track teams took part in the Dartmouth Indoor Classic on Saturday afternoon. The men's 4x200 relay team came away with a win (1:32.16), with senior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) winning the 3,000 (8:36.47) and junior Addie Tousley (Kensington, Md.) capturing the mile (5:02.16).
Comprising the winning 4x200 men's relay team were senior Jason Jan (Basking Ridge, N.J.), sophomore Peter Hetzler (Rumson, N.J.) and rookies David Parker (Arlington, Va.) and Sam Rives (Manchester, Mass.). Placing second in the 4x400 with a time of 3:28.64 were Hetzler, Parker, Jan and junior Louis Cornacchione (Bear Creek Township, Pa.).
Sophomore Wilder Schaaf (Ashland, Ore.) came in second (1:58.58) in the 800, Cornacchione was third in the 500 (1:06.90), junior Anthony Lee (Plainsboro, N.J.) placed fourth in the 1,000 (2:34.29), while sophomore Brian Parker (S. Windsor, Conn.) was fourth in the triple jump (40'6”). Schmidt was fourth in the mile (4:17.25), while junior Jack Davis (Crosse Pointe, Mich.) was second in the 3,000 (8:38.78) and third in the mile (4:16.24).
Earning second place finishes for the women were junior Danielle Baker (Glastonbury, Conn.) in the pole vault (10'6”), senior Mia Martinez (Ridgewood, N.J.) in the 60 meter hurdles (9.22) and sophomore Laura Strom (Lopez Island, Wash.) in the high jump (5'4.25”).
The Panthers finished third, fourth and fifth in the 1,000, led by rookie Summer Spillane (Shelburne, Vt.) (3:05.16), classmate Sarah Guth (Wilton, Conn.) (3:06.12) and junior Sarah O'Brien (Wellesley, Mass.) (3:07.69). The 4x200 team of Martinez, senior Kira Gordon (Scarborough, Maine), sophomore Emily Dalton (Simsbury, Conn.), and rookie Grace Heglund-Lohman (LaCrosse, Wis.) won the event with a time of 1:51.05.
