The Middlebury College indoor track and field teams opened up their winter season by competing in the Gotham Cup hosted by N.Y.U. The meet was comprised of mostly Division I teams, with the Panthers earning some top finishes.
Sophomore Peter Hetzler (Rumson, N.J.) tied the school's 400 meter record, finishing 13th overall with a time of 49.94. Also earning top finishes for the men were sophomores Wilder Schaaf (Ashland, Ore.) and junior Anthony Lee (Plainsboro, N.Y.) who came in sixth (4:21.28) and 14th (4:24.49) respectively in the mile.
On the women's side, junior Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.) broke the school mark in the 1,000, finishing 10th with a time of 2:57.55. Also breaking a school record was the women's 4x400 relay team of Davis, sophomore Morgan Childs (Castleton, Vt.) and Victoria Sheffield (Seattle, Wash.) and first-year racer Grace Heglund-Lohman (LaCrosse, Wis.). The group finished the event in 14th place overall, earning a time of 4:04.90.
Sophomore Lottie Hedden (Washington, D.C.) and rookie Alison Maxwell (Port Angeles, Wash.) were solid in the mile, with Hedden placing eighth (5:21.70) and Maxwell coming in 10th (5:23.60). Other top finishers for the women were Sheffield in the 500 (13th-1:19.41) and rookie Sarah Guth (Wilton, Conn.) in the 800 (15th-2:24.26).
RESULTS
