The Middlebury College track and field teams were in action at the Open New England Championships hosted by Southern Connecticut on Saturday. The Panther women finished 11th of 32 teams competing, while the men were 19 among 35. Teams from Division I, II and III from across New England competed at the event.
Sophomore Jack Davies (Grosse Point, Mich.) won the New England title in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, taking the event with a time of 9:09.91. Also earning N.E. Championship honors was junior Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.), who captured the 1,500 in 4:29.89.
Four other Middlebury athletes earned All-New England honors, including senior Addison Godine (Milton, Mass.), who finished seventh in the 800 (1:52.63) and sophomore Grace Doering (Darien, Conn.), who placed sixth in the high jump (5'5”). Also finishing in the top eight were senior Kaitlynn Saldanha (Scarborough, Maine) in the 400 hurdles (1:04.21-7th) and senior Erin Toner (New Providence, N.J.) in the 1,500 (4:33.06-5th).
Two Panther relay teams also earned All-N.E. honors, with the women's 4x4 squad setting a new school record and qualifying for the NCAA's with a time of 3:53.84 (7th). Comprising the team were Cramer, Saldanha, junior Rebecca Fanning (Ipswich, Mass.) and sophomore Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.). Toner, junior Claire McIlvennie (Ithaca, N.Y.) and seniors Cailey Condit (Leverett, Mass.) and Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) made up the 4x8 squad that finished fourth with a time of 9:17.89.
