Women Second, Men Third At NESCAC Track & Field Championships

The Middlebury women's track & field team placed second only to Williams, while the men were third behind Williams and Bates at the 2011 NESCAC Championships hosted by Wesleyan.

Senior Kaitlynn Saldanha (Scarborough, Maine) earned the NESCAC title in the 800 (2:11.15) for the women, while anchoring NESCAC Championship 4x400 team. Her time in the 800 was a new NESCAC meet and school record, qualifying her for the NCAA's. Junior Mia Martinez (Ridgewood, N.J.) captured the 100 hurdles (14.89- NCAA provisional qualifer), while senior Anne Rowell (Craftsbury, Vt.) earned championship honors in the 100 (12.82). Also earning a NESCAC crown for the women was junior Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) in the 3,000 steeplechase (10:49.77-NCAA provisional qualifer). Comprising the championship 4x400 squad were Saldanha, sophomore Sarah O'Brien (Wellesley, Mass.), rookie Victoria Sheffield (Seattle, Wash.) and sophomore Juliet Ryan-Davis (Newton, Mass.) in 3:56.60. Cramer, junior Rebecca Fanning (Ipswich, Mass.) and seniors Erin Toner (New Providence, N.J.) and Cailey Condit (Leverett, Mass.) were a part of the women's 4x800 team that captured the event in 9:18.96.

Senior Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) also provisionally qualified for the NCAA's in the 1,500, placing third with a time of 4:38. Placing second for the women were Ryan-Davis in the 400 (49.09), Cramer in the 800 (2:12.75) and sophomore Grace Doering (Darien, Conn.) in the high jump (5'5").

On the men's side, first-year racer Peter Hetzler (Rumson, N.J.) won the 200 (22.25), sophomore Jack Davies (Grosse Point, Mich.) captured the 3,000 steeplechase (9:13.97), while junior Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) won the NESCAC title in the 10,000 (31:20.42). The men's DMR team of senior Addison Godine (Milton, Mass.), sophomore Louis Cornacchione (Bear Creek Township, Pa.), Davies and Schmidt won the title with a time of 10:31.31. 

Finishing second for the men were Hetzler in the 400 (49.09) and senior Jack terrett (Sherborn, Mass. In the 5,000 (14:56.47).
