Track & Field Competes At D3 N.E.'s - Women Third Of 40

The Panther track and field teams returned to action with a trip to the New England Championships hosted by Springfield College. The women's team placed third overall among 26 teams competing, while the men were 11th among 25. Top eight finishers at the meet earned All-New England honors.

The women's squad received well-balanced results to earn its impressive finish. In the 1500, sophomore Erin Toner (New Providence, N.J.) placed second (4:38.98), sophomore Sophia Spring (Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y.) came in seventh (4:40.85), while rookie Margo Cramer (Seattle, Wash.) came in eighth (4:41.62). The 110 hurdles also featured three All-N.E. Panthers, as senior Jennifer Brenes (Lawrence, Mass.) came in third (15.14), first-year racer Mia Martinez (Ridgewood, N.J.) was fifth (15.22) while senior Kelley Coughlan (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) was seventh (15.93).

Sophomore Alice Wisener (Ridgewood, N.J.) qualified for the NCAA's with a time of 1:03.56, placing second in the 400 hurdles. Coughlan earned a third place finish in the triple jump (37'5.75"), senior Jen Katz (Winchester, Mass.) came in fifth in the 100 (12.87), while Brenes was sixth in the long jump (17'4"). Sophomore Katy Magill (Boxford, Mass.) earned a sixth place finish in the 400 hurdles (1:05.91), senior Emer Feighery (Westborough, Mass.) came in seventh in the pole vault (10'2"), while sophomore Annie Rowell (Craftsbury, Vt.) placed eighth in the 200 (26.41).

The 4x100 team of Brenes, Rowell, Wisener and Katz finished third overall with a time of 49.64. The 4x400 team comprised of Wisener, junior Laura Dalton (Simsbury, Conn.), rookie Rebecca Fanning (Ipswich, Mass.) and Magill finished with a time of 3:59.67 to place third. Toner, Spring, sophomore Cailey Condit (Leverett, Mass.) and Cramer finished third in the 4x800 with a time of 9:16.70.

First-year racer Michael Schmidt (Wilmette, Ill.) continued his impressive season on the men's side, earning New England Champion honors in the 5,000 with a time of 15:00.36. Sophomore Nick Plugis (Bedford, Mass.) placed second for the Panthers in the javelin (183'7"), rookie John Montroy (Mahwah, N.J.) came in third in the 110 hurdles (15.23), followed by sophomore Addison Godine (Milton, Mass.) with a fourth place finish in the 800 (1:54.97). Junior Micah Wood (Tacoma, Wash.) finished sixth for Middlebury in the 400, while sophomore Adam Dede (West Chester, Ohio) came in eighth in the pole vault (13'9.25').

The men's 4x400 relay comprised of Wood, Godine, sophomore Connor Wood (Chicago, Ill.) and rookie Ethan Mann (Norwich, Vt.) came in seventh overall with a time of 3:25.55.
