Field Hockey Tops Williams In OT

Middlebury notched a key NESCAC win with a 3-2 overtime victory over Williams on a soggy Kohn Field.  The Panthers entered the game ranked 11th nationally and third in the conference, while the 15th ranked Ephs were in second place in the NESCAC.

Middlebury started the scoring at 18:24 in the first half, when Channing Weymouth deflected Reid Berrien's shot over the goalkeeper and into the back of the cage.  The game remained at 1-0 until the 31:15 mark in the second half, when after a scramble in front of the net, Elspeth MacMillan evened the score. The Ephs moved ahead of the Panthers at 13:55 when Meghan McGowan received a pass in the middle from Ashley Sewell and dribbled past the diving goalkeeper, making the score 2-1.  With only 3:05 left in regulation, Allison Smith directed a pass to Janie Mackey in the corner, who deflected the ball high into the back of the cage, to tie the score at 2-2.  Middlebury ended the game 4:45 into overtime, after Reid Berrien wound up and cranked Channing Weymouth's feed into the corner of the goal.

Meghan McGillen ended the game with seven saves for the Panthers, while the Ephs goalkeeper Emily Wasserman made three.
