Fresh off a pair of second-place finishes to open the season, the Panther ski teams were back in action Friday in Maine at the Colby Carnival. Vermont leads after one day with 450 points, followed by Dartmouth (434) and the Panthers (399). Nordic racer Sophia Laukli earned another win on Friday to highlight the performances. Action continues tomorrow with the slalom and classical races. Quarry Road Trails hosted today's nordic events, while the alpine racers were at Sugarloaf Mountain.

On the alpine hill, Erik Arvidsson made it five-straight races in the top six by placing third in the giant slalom with a time of 1:59.66. Justin Alkier crossed the line in seventh place with a combined time of 2:00.65. Pate Campbell rounded out the scorers in 15th place with a time of 2:03.06.

The Panther women were paced by Lucia Bailey on Friday, who finished the GS with a two-run time of 2:04.56 to place eighth overall. Two spots back in 10th place was Ali Nullmeyer, who earned a time of 2:04.77. Emma Hall was Middlebury's third scorer, as her time of 2:05.12 placed her 14th.

Laukli won for the second-straight week in the 5K freestyle race, covering the course with a time of 13:35, 10 seconds ahead of her nearest competitor. Alexandra Lawson placed fifth in the event (14:10), giving her a top-five spot in each race this winter. Rounding out the scorers was Charlotte Ogden, who came in 22nd with a time of 14:55, as the Panthers placed second in the event.

Peter Wolter was the top finisher on the men's side, taking eighth overall with a time of 25:31 in the 10K free. Wilson Moore crossed the line in 26:09, good for 12th place. The team's final scorer was Josh Valentine, who earned a time of 26:45 to place 24th.
