The Middlebury skiing team sits in fifth place with 229 points after the third day of competition at the NCAA Championships in Utah. The men's alpine skiing team tallied the most points in a discipline thus far with 58. Colorado catapulted to the top spot in the team standings with 415 points, while Utah is just 6.5 points behind heading into Saturday's nordic action. Denver (314.5 points) rounds out the top-three spots.
HIGHLIGHTS
- In his initial slalom action on the NCAA stage, Julian Arthur shaved nearly three seconds off his first-run clocking for a combined time of 1:34.02. He was just 0.25 seconds behind Dartmouth's Oscar Zimmer and secured runner-up honors along with All-American First-Team accolades.
- Sophia Palmquist completed her two trips down the mountain at 1:37.70 for 15th place.
- Finishing 18th was Milan Novak with a combined time of 1:36.74.
- Nicholas Unkovskoy closed out the men's entries, clocking an effort of 1:37.41 to earn 23rd.
- In her opening run, Kjersti Moritz skied out and hiked back to a gate. The Panther regrouped and clocked the second run's quickest effort of 46.71 for 29th (2:00.47).
NOTES
- Arthur is the highest Middlebury male skier finisher in the slalom since David Donaldson '13 grabbed silver at the 2013 championships hosted by the Panthers.
- Moritz's second-run clocking was the seventh-fastest of the day overall.
- Middlebury's three alpine All-Americans are the highest total since the program tallied four at the 2020 championships.
The nordic squad closes the four-day competition with the 20K freestyle mass start. The women hit the course at 8:30 a.m. MT with the men to follow at 10:15 a.m. MT.
