Middlebury Garners Five CSC Academic All-District At-Large Laurels

Dummer, Filippelli, Kern, Palombo and Unkovskoy garnered all-district accolades.
Five Middlebury student-athletes spanning three sports have been named College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large selections. Drew Dummer, Noah Filippelli, Hayden Kern, Dante Palombo and Nicholas Unkovskoy each garnered praise from the organization.

HONOREE HIGHLIGHTS
  • Dummer (lacrosse)
    • Dummer graduated in May after majoring in economics.
    • The defender logged his initial New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-Region honor with a second-team nod.
    • Dummer garnered All-NESCAC distinction after logging a first-team selection this spring.
    • The captain caps his career as the all-time leader in caused turnovers (93) and surpassed 100 ground balls.
    • He led the Panther contingent with 36 caused miscues and scooped up 33 rollers over 17 contests this spring. The senior forced two or more miscues in nine contests, including a career-high six against Williams.
    • The defender was a three-time NESCAC All-Academic selection.
  • Filippelli (lacrosse)
    • A rising senior, Filippelli is majoring in economics and grabs his initial academic all-district nod.
    • The faceoff specialist recorded regional accolades for the first time with a place on the third team alongside an all-league second-team selection.
    • Filippelli had a standout campaign as the Panthers' primary force at the X. He paced the squad with 206 victories and 103 ground balls. 
    • His .628 faceoff winning percentage is tied for the fourth-best mark in a campaign.
    • Filippelli has been a NESCAC All-Academic honoree in each of the last two seasons.
  • Kern (lacrosse)
    • Kern earned his degree in May in economics and a minor in mathematics. The district honor is his first distinction. 
    • He tallied his first NEILA all-region praise with a third-team slot.
    • The senior goalie started all 17 contests in front of the net, making 213 saves in nearly 1,000 minutes of game action.
    • Kern surpassed Paul Scheufele '80 on the all-time career stops list, finishing his career with 867 saves.
    • The Westlake, Texas product logged a .518 save percentage, 224 ground balls and 50 caused turnovers over 77 contests.
    • He is a three-time NESCAC All-Academic honoree.
    • Off the field, he was involved with the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Sustainability Club and was the lead for the program's involvement with the HEADstrong Foundation last spring.
  • Palombo (ice hockey)
    • Palombo is an economics major with a minor in philosophy.
    • The rising senior was tied for the team lead in goals with seven and one of 11 players with double-digit points.
    • He sat atop the program ranks with a .556 faceoff winning percentage (237-426). Palombo had 11 games with 10 or more faceoff victories.
    • The forward led the Panthers with four game-winning goals and helped guide Middlebury to the NESCAC title game for the first time since 2012.
    • An alternate captain last winter, he is a two-time NESCAC All-Academic recipient and Krampade/American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) All-American Scholar.
    • He is involved with numerous organizations on campus, including the Middlebury Wash & Carry Company, MiddCAM and the Biggabed Campus Director.
  • Unkovskoy (alpine skiing)
    • Unkovskoy is a rising senior and majoring in economics.
    • This winter, he raced to All-American accolades at the NCAA Championships with a third-place effort in the giant slalom.
    • That finish marked the highest showing in the discipline at the national invitational in 11 years.
    • Unkovskoy collected eight finishes inside the top 10 across the slalom and GS this season.
    • The captain is a two-time NCAA Qualifier and was a Second-Team All-East selection a year ago.
    • He concludes his career with a quartet of podium finishes and 16 top-10 finishes.
    • In the classroom, Unkovskoy recorded NESCAC All-Academic certificates twice.
An athlete must be a sophomore athletically or higher, hold a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or higher, have been enrolled at the institution for at least one calendar year and be a starter or key reserve on their team to be eligible for the honor.
