The Panther ski teams finished second among 15 scoring teams at the University of Vermont Carnival. The hosts won the event with 903 points, followed by the Panthers (875), Dartmouth (833) and UNH (643). Middlebury individuals won three of the four events on Saturday, with a second-place finish in the fourth race. Nordic races were held at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center, while the alpine races took place at the Stowe Mountain Resort. The Panthers are back in action next weekend when they take part in the Colby Carnival.
The women's alpine team won the slalom on Saturday, led by Ali Nullmeyer, who earned her first collegiate win with a time of 1:51.8. Lucia Bailey and Madison Lord each tied their career-best efforts with their finishes. Bailey placed third in 1:54.9, while Lord was eighth with a time of 1:56.8.
Justin Alkier earned his first carnival win on the men's side, finishing with a time of 1:49.5. Erik Arvidsson earned a two-run time of 1:49.5 to finish the slalom fifth overall. The Panthers finished third in the event, despite only the aforementioned skiers finishing the race.
It was a great day for the Panther nordic teams as well, as the Middlebury women won the freestyle, while the men placed second.
Sophia Laukli picked up her first collegiate victory, clocking a time of 14:06 to win the 5K freestyle race. Alexandra Lawson covered the course in 14:28 to come in fifth, while Annika Landis was just 1.4 seconds behind in sixth place.
Peter Wolter continued his stellar start for the men's team, earning a time of 26:28 to place second in the 10K freestyle event. Samuel Hodges rounded out the top-10 with a time of 27:33, while Willson Moore was the team's third finisher in 17th place overall (28:10).
