The Middlebury ski teams finished second overall at the opening carnival of the season hosted by Harvard. Vermont won the event with 867 points, followed by Middlebury (863) and Dartmouth (839). Alpine races took place at the Waterville Valley Resort in Waterville, N.H., while nordic races were contested in Vermont at the Craftsbury Outdoor Center. The Panthers return to action next weekend at the University of Vermont Carnival.

The alpine men turned in another solid performance with two in the top five. Justin Alkier placed fourth for the second-straight day, earning a time of 2:08.17 in the giant slalom.  Just 2/100th's of a second behind was Erik Arvidsson, whose two-run time was 2:08.19, good for sixth place. Pate Campbell was Middlebury's third scorer on Saturday, placing 13th with a time of 2:09.74.

Lucia Bailey paced the Panther women in the giant slalom, finishing the event in fifth place with a time of 2:12.81. Placing 12th overall was Nina Reichhelm with a two-run time of 2:14.48, followed by Emma Hall in 21st place (2:15.63).

Peter Wolter paced the nordic men, finishing third overall in the men's 20K classic event with a time of 54:23. Sam Hodges was the next Panther to cross the line, with his time of 56:51 garnering 17th-place honors. Placing 31st overall was Wilson Moore, who came in with a time of 58:12.

The women's nordic team had another big day, as the Panthers placed three skiers in the top six. Fresh off her win on Friday, Alexandra Lawson took home a second-place finish in the 15K classic mass start event with a time of 46:50. Sophia Laukli repeated her performance from yesterday, placing fourth overall with a time of 47:03. Rounding out the scorers was Annika Landis, who also finished in the same spot as the previous day, finishing with a time of 47:29 to place sixth.
