No. 3 Women's Tennis Eases Past No. 8 Tufts

The third-ranked Middlebury women's tennis team increased its winning streak to four with a 7-2 NESCAC victory Saturday over No. 8 Tufts on the Proctor Tennis Courts. The Panthers return to action Sunday with a 10:00 a.m. home match against ninth-ranked Williams.

Middlebury started things by earning two of the three points during doubles play. The No. 2 tandem of Katherine Hughes and Skylar Schossberger posted an 8-0 victory over Anna Lowy and Nicole Frankel, before the duo of Christina Puccinelli and Maddi Stow doubled the lead with an 8-3 triumph against Tomo Iwasaki and Patricia Obeid in the third flight. The top Jumbo pair recorded an 8-6 win, slicing the Middlebury edge to 2-1.

In singles play, the Panthers rattled off the first five matches to finish. Schossberger blanked Carolin Garrido at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), while Heather Boehm tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 against Iwasaki. Emily Bian clinched the team's fifth point and the match via a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the bottom of the lineup over Kiara Rose.

Stow made the score 6-1 with a 6-1, 6-4 win against Frankel at No. 5, before Puccinelli edged past Obeid in the third spot by scores of 7-6 (2), 6-4.

The Jumbos concluded the scoring with a three-set victory at No. 2 for the final 7-2 tally.
